Thanks to teacher and staff volunteers, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to participate in the BCE Spelling Bee. Top two finishers from each homeroom will advance to the School Bee held in the cafeteria on January 15, 2020 3-4:30 pm. Study lists are provided on this website, however, ALL of the Bee words might not be from the PUBLISHED study lists. The Spelling Bee Word List is provided to the school by Scripps National Spelling Bee. Words and word order are dictated by the Scripps National organization. The Spelling Bee challenges the application of spelling conventions, not memorization.
AFTER BCE CHAMP IS DETERMINED:
The next step for the SCHOOL champion is NOT another Spelling Bee. The Austin Regional Spelling Bee begins with an online test including vocabulary and spelling rounds which will take place between February 5, 2020 and February 19, 2020 during school hours, under the supervision of the School Spelling Bee Coordinator. Scripps will evaluate the tests and determine the top spellers advancing to the Austin Regional Spelling Bee held on March 24, 2020. The National Bee is May 24, 2020- May 29, 2020.
If you are not familiar with the Scripps National Spelling Bee RSVBee program. Please take the time to check it out. RSVBee, is an opportunity for spellers that do not advance via the Austin Regional Spelling Bee to have an opportunity to be invited (expenses are not covered by the Austin Regional Spelling Bee program) to participate at the National level. If interested, it is important for the parent to apply as soon as possible, as they are time stamped. Should you apply and be invited, you are not required to accept.
